Super Bowl or Brand Bowl | Internet Marketing Orlando News

Last updated 5 years ago

Every year, two teams face off together for the coveted Super Bowl winner title. And while most American's claim to tune in for the big game, you know we are all anxiously awaiting, perhaps even more so than the actual game itself, the commercials.

This year the real battle wasn't between the Giants and the Patriots, it was between the brands that spend millions capturing our undivided attention. In a time when most of us DVR our favorite shows and simply fast forward through commercials, this is the one time of year when they actually have our attention focused on them so they have to make it count.

Brands spend millions not only on the highly coveted airtime but also on brainstorming, storyboarding and finalizing genius, or in some cases not so genius, Super Bowl commercials (known by many on Twitter as #brandbowl).  ESPN New York states that "The Super Bowl is advertising's biggest stage and companies spent an average of $3.5 million for 30-second commercials for the right to duke it out during Sunday's game."

And if you were unfortunate enough to see the ads live on Sunday here are some of our top picks and the brands that we really felt could have spent their money more wisely.

M&M's Sexy & I Know It Super Bowl Commercial

If this commercial doesn't make you laugh, then I don't know what will. They did a great job not only of being entertaining and capturing your attention but they also did a phenomenal job at highlighting what makes them so different. Great way to incorporating the uniqueness of M&Ms into the commercial.

Doritos Man's Best Friend Super Bowl Commercial

Great way to showcase how powerful Doritos really are. Both commercials do a phenomenal and humorous job and letting us know just how great Doritos really are. And here I thought they weren't going to be able to live up to last years viewer submission ad.

Teleflora Adriana Lima Valentine's Day Super Bowl Commercial

Honestly guys, this ad couldn't be truer. Telefora does a fantastic job offering great Valentine's Day advice while promoting their product. All I can say is - dead on.

Fiat Abarth Seduction Super Bowl Commercial

Honestly I thought I was watching another Telefora commercial. Definitely did not see this coming. Not sure if it really showcases the car but overall an amusing commercial. Perhaps guys can side with this one a bit more than a female.

Sketchers Go Run Mr. Quiggley Super Bowl Commercial

Seriously, this commercial is just hilarious. Definitely showcases the abilities and qualities of the shoes but in a way that definitely captures your attention and makes you smile. How could you not - the dog is simply adorable.

Toyota Camry It's Reinvented Super Bowl Commercial

Loved this commercial. Great job of tying in the changes to the Camry with reinventions that we'd all love to see in our every day life. Reinforces the brand and makes us connect with it. I'm a fan! I'd love to see that reinvented rain happen for real.

Volkswagen Dog Strikes Super Bowl Commercial

Another winner this year by Volkswagen. Although I do feel that they could have done without the Vader reference at the end.

And the commercials that got a big DISLIKE from me. Go Daddy's Body Paint commercial and Cars.com Confident You commercial.

So there are some of my top Super Bowl commercial picks. What are yours? Share your thoughts with us. What did you love? What did you hate?
